As of the date above: no advertising, no affiliate links, no sponsored content, no paid links, no gifted hardware, no review copies, no arrangement of any kind with any project, vendor or distributor named on this site.

This page ships before there is anything to disclose, so that it has a history of being honest before it has anything to be honest about.

What is true today

• No ads. No display network, no house ads, no sponsorships, no “supported by”.
• No affiliate links. Not to a retailer, not to a hosting company, not to anything. There is no product to sell somebody researching a dead distribution, and the pretence that there is would be the first thing a reader in this audience noticed.
• No paid placement, ever. This site does not sell links, does not accept guest posts, does not host sponsored posts, and does not trade links with anybody. Every outbound link on this site is here because a reader would want it.
• No payment or consideration has been received from any distribution, foundation, vendor, hosting provider or individual mentioned here.
• Nothing here is a review. This site does not review software it has not run, and it does not run software in order to review it. Where a piece compares systems, it compares documented, checkable properties, and says so in the body.

Who pays for this, and what else the publisher owns

Still Seeding is funded out of the publisher’s pocket. Hosting a static site of this size costs close to nothing, which is a large part of why it can afford to have no business model.

Two things worth stating plainly, because they are the sort of thing a reader is entitled to know rather than to discover:

• This domain was bought, not inherited. It was registered in 2026 after it lapsed. It was chosen because of what was published here in 2005 and 2006 and because the people still following twenty-year-old links to it deserve something better than the casino affiliate page they were getting. About tells that story in full, and the provenance line at the foot of every page states the relationship — none — between this publication and the original project.
• The publisher operates other, unrelated websites. None of them are about Linux, none of them are linked from here, and no article on this site exists to send traffic anywhere the publisher owns. If you ever find a link from this site to another property of ours, that is a mistake and a correction, not a business model.

Outbound links

Links from articles go to primary sources: project documentation, release notes, repositories, mirrors, bug trackers, mailing-list archives, the Internet Archive, and the personal sites and blogs of the people who did the work. Nothing is affiliate-tagged, nothing passes through a redirect or tracker, and no link is placed in exchange for anything.

If any of that ever changes

The rules are fixed now, in advance, so they cannot be negotiated later against an invoice:

• The disclosure goes immediately above the link, in body text size and body text colour, on the page carrying the link — never in the footer, never behind a link, never once at the bottom of a long article. Under 16 CFR Part 465 a disclosure a reader must click, hover over or scroll to find fails on its face. The wording would be exactly this sentence: “I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post.” Not “affiliate link”, not “commissionable link”, not a bare button.
• This page is in addition to that line, never instead of it.
• No first-person product-experience claim, with or without a link, ever. Not “I tested this”, not “I use this daily”, not “my go-to”. That is the rule whether or not money is involved, and it does not have an exception for products we would have recommended anyway.
• Nothing gets written because it can be monetised. The only plausible surfaces on a site like this are incidental — a USB stick in a piece about booting old images, an external drive in a piece about backing up a dying machine — and an article whose subject was chosen by its earning potential is an advertisement with a byline.
• Display advertising, if it ever ships, is labelled, never inside the body of an article, and disclosed here on the day it goes live.
• Any change to this page is logged on Corrections, dated, so the history of what this site has taken money for is auditable from the outside.

Conflicts of interest

The publisher has no employment, contract, consulting, shareholding or volunteer relationship with any distribution, foundation or vendor covered on this site, and has never had one. If that changes — including something as small as a maintainer becoming a friend — it gets disclosed at the top of every affected article, not here at the bottom of a policy page.
